ECODynamic Solutions (EDS) Inc. is awarded the IEM contract for the John Hart Project (the ‘Project’). As a team, EDS has more than 130 years of environmental management experience. We will be assisting BC Hydro and its contractors on the John Hart Re-Build Project.
As the Independent Environmental Monitor, EDS will be monitoring and documenting the construction activities throughout the course of the Project, providing information and reports on the project’s performance directly to the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (MFLNRO) (Water Stewardship Division). These reports will be compiled and distributed independently, providing details on the compliance of construction activities with the Project’s Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP), specific permits and permit conditions, and other commitments made by the licensee during project permitting.
The John Hart Generating Station, located within the city of Campbell River, has been operating since 1947. To ensure it continues to deliver clean, reliable energy for years to come, the facility is being modernized.
BC Hydro’s early site preparation works are nearing completion. In November 2013, BC Hydro announced SNC-Lavalin Inc. is the preferred general contractor. The contract is anticipated to be signed in early 2014. From there, they will mobilize to design and build the project. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
The replacement facility will improve power reliability and seismic safety, and make it easier for BC Hydro to protect fish habitat in an area of the world renowned for its salmon. John Hart is one of Vancouver Island’s most important generating facilities.
