The Hystad Generating Station is located approximately five kilometres west of Valemount, on Hystad Creek, which drains into the McLennan River. Commissioned in 2001, the run-of-river facility has an installed capacity of 5.7 MW and a head of 337 metres. Brookfield recently acquired the generating facility, and conducted sluice gate testing in 2011 to ensure that the gates were functional. Testing was conducted in a manner to minimize the sediment pulse to Hystad Creek. EDS provided water quality sampling throughout the testing process to ensure that BC water quality guidelines were adhered to.
